With summer around the corner, everyone’s humming to Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up the Sun”. If you are a beach bum who cannot wait to strip down and go swimming, you must also be concerned about showing off your smooth and healthy skin.
Even if you should never slack on your skincare routine, getting along with the 10-step Korean beauty routine can be a hassle in the summertime. That’s why you can change a bit your routine and follow this Korean skincare routine during summer that will be a great help to your skin and won’t bore you.
The Best Korean Summer Skincare Routine and Products
That’s our suggestion for a great skincare routine this summer.
1. Exfoliate
Skin exfoliation should be your number one priority no matter what season. But most of us slack off and it results in dull and dry skin. Get your skin to glow again by exfoliating it. Unless you have sensitive skin that reacts to exfoliation, you should regularly exfoliate to get smooth and healthy skin. However, only the topmost layer of dead cells should be buffed away and your skin should not be stripped of its natural oils. Make use of a grainy scrub that can dissolve with time so as to avoid skin irritation (like sea salt or sugar).

2. Get Rid of Hair Without Skin Irritation
Summer usually calls for hairless skin. If you prefer shaving your hair, do so after a shower since it makes the hair soft and easy to shave. For a quicker shave minus the shower, apply some oil to the skin, and shave. The oil will prevent any razor burns and allow the razor to glide on your skin. If you have some sparse strands of hair peeking out, you can pluck them out using a pair of tweezers. Plucking in the direction of the hair growth will prevent any ingrown hair. Shaving is a big part of Asian culture, and it has to be gentle and delicate on your skin.

3. Post Hair Removal Skincare
You are pleased with your silky smooth skin. However, do not rush out in the sun the moment you have removed the hair. Apart from the exfoliation provided by waxing and shaving, there is also a possibility of razor burns that can get exacerbated by the sun. Hair follicles and the skin become vulnerable after the removal of hair. Allow your skin to recover from the hair removal process by staying out of the sun for 24 hours after getting rid of your hair. If you are in a hurry, apply some oil-free sunscreen lotion and allow it to dry.

4. Protect Your Skin
The direct rays of the sun are your skin’s worst enemy. Use enough sunscreen to block out the harmful UV rays. Opt for a mineral-only sunscreen that contains zinc oxide or titanium oxide as they block UVA and UVB rays. However, do not go overboard with the sunscreen. You can also shield your skin by including cooked tomatoes in your diet. They are a rich source of lycopene that neuters the harmful effects of UV rays.

5. Prevent Breakouts
The heat and humidity is the worst combination since it leads to skin breakouts. The acne is not limited to just the face and can even pop up on your back, chest, or anywhere on the body. Use salicylic acid to flush out any microbes making the home inside your pores. Clean your skin often with an effective cleanser and exfoliate your skin.

6. Stay Hydrated
Depending on your skin type, begin getting your skin accustomed to the season by shifting your hydration routine. Well-hydrated skin is happy skin. Your water consumption should also depend on your surroundings. If you live in a dry climate, you might find your skin turning dry too. Avoid any dense and greasy moisturizers and settle for something that is water-based and light. Coconut oil is great for all skin types. If your skin turns oily around summer, spritz a refreshing mist of toner on your skin to balance out the natural skin oil.
